An informal survey of more than 20 female spectators out to watch players practice for the Masters on a warm Georgia day, found nearly all of them happy to see Woods back despite the sex scandal that led to an absence of five months.

"I try to separate the athlete and the person," Beda Johnson of Martinez, Georgia, told Reuters as she strolled with two friends along the 13th fairway.

"What he did on 16 a few years ago (in 2005, his last Masters win) where he chipped in that incredible putt. How many times in the world are you going to see anybody do that?

"If he can do it, no matter what he's done in his personal life, that is a professional sportsman and that's what is important this week and to this crowd."

"I'm actually No. 16," said the blonde. "His personal life is his personal life."

One woman sounded a decidedly a negative note.

"I was never a fan of Tiger's and that just totally did it for me," said Sandra, who would not give her last name.

"I know that it's his personal life, but I'm sorry. If you're going to be in the eye of people, small kids that look up to you, don't do those things."

Perched by the side of the 15th green, three African American women were together watching as Woods played through.

"I think in the last couple of days he's made it easier for us to separate the husband from the golfer," said Jonell Poe of Augusta. "I think that the interviews he gave yesterday were honest. I think they were open."

"I traveled down just to see Tiger," said Traci Powers, a native Augustan, who lives in Chesapeake City, Maryland. "He's made tremendous strides for minorities on the golf course.

"I actually was here the first year he played as an amateur (1995). I was working in a concession stand while I was in high school on my Spring break.

Unfortunately, nobody's perfect.

"I will always respect him as a golfer on the course and I came out to show my support," she said, wearing a Nike cap to honor Woods who is sponsored by the company. "I really do wish him and (wife) Elin the best."
