Jackie won the senior division at 2009 Diamond in the Desert Classic.
There were lots of great hitters in the field.
Jackie says the RE/MAX WLDC senior division gets stronger each year.
You have to bring your "A" game every time you step on the tee box, but
Jackie loves the competition.
Jackie also won the DDC senior division in 2007 and finished runner-up in
2008. Jackie hates to go to locals and regionals because they are tough.
Jackie has not gone through senior division local and regional qualifying
because of the Diamond in the Desert Classic.
At 2009 DDC, Jackie came through with a clutch sixth ball to win Rd. 6
and advance to the head-to-head finals against Tom Garber.
What stood out from his DDC finals match against Tom Garber was
All I wanted was to hit some good drives because Tom had been hitting it
good all day. Tom is such a great competitor and a great guy. I actually
had been pulling for him all day.
Jackie has a background in baseball, having played at collegiate level
and being a high school coach.
Jackie says there are similarities between swinging a baseball bat and
swinging a driver? The baseball swing and the long drive swing are pretty much the same. You
must generate club head speed to hit a golf ball far and for baseball,
you must have quick wrists and hands to generate bat speed.
What advise does Jackie give someone new to LD?
Never give up. Keep hitting because you never know what will happen in
the sport of long driving.
