Hi Sookegirl!   

Thank you for joining our forum!  From your user name I gather you are from Sooke, British Columibia so you are already in one of the best crabbing areas in BC, try the government dock in Sooke, there are usually other crabbers there that would be happy to show you the ropes.  You will need a crabbing license, which is easy to obtain right in Sooke City.  Other areas close to you would include Victoria, Cowichan Bay, Salt Spring Island (famous for their Salt Spring Lamb) and the Comox Valley.  If you decide to leave your beautiful province you can travel up the West Coast and there are great crabbing spots in Washington, Oregon and California.

Hi again Sooke Girl!

It's still real early and I didn't have my morning java yet so I missed your question about Hiking.....Sooke has some spectacular hiking areas, my favourites are East Sooke Regional Park which has acres of hiking areas and some are right along the ocean.  I also love going to Metchosin, where there are lots of waterfront parks, if you have not tried Witty's Lagoon that is also a great spot, bring a picnic lunch and your favourite bottle of vino for after!  The Sooke & Victoria tourist information offices have detailed maps of all the hiking areas in the South Vancouver Island.  Please make sure you always tell a buddy when you go hiking so they can check to see if you got home safely...
