Se Ri Pak

Golf Swing Highlights

Profile & History:
Pak won 30 tournaments in Korea as an amateur. She was a track star in high school. Her father taught her golf at the age of 14. She moved to the United States in 1997.

A few career-to-date highlights:
Pak ran away with the Rolex Rookie of the Year award in 1998. Her closest competitor was Janice Moodie, 904 points behind. Pak actually clinched the title nine weeks before the end of the season, following her fourth-place finish at the First Union Betsy King Classic on September 27.

In her first major championship as an LPGA professional, Pak went wire-to-wire to capture the McDonald's LPGA Championship. In her second major championship, Pak became the youngest player to win the U.S. Women's Open after an 18-hole playoff followed by two holes of sudden-death with amateur Jenny Chuasiriporn. The 92-hole tournament was the longest in women's professional golf history.

Pak joined Juli Inkster as the only LPGA players to capture two modern major championships in their rookie seasons.

Joined Meg Mallon and LPGA Hall of Famer Mickey Wright as the only LPGA players to win the LPGA Championship and U.S. Women's Open in the same year (Mallon won both in 1991; Wright won both majors in 1961 and 1958). Pak is the only LPGA rookie to win both the McDonald's LPGA Championship and U.S. Women's Open.

Carded the lowest 18-hole score in LPGA history with a 61 in the second round and the lowest 72-hole total score in LPGA history with a 261 total at the Jamie Farr Kroger Classic. Pak won the Jamie Farr Kroger Classic by nine strokes, the largest margin of victory of the 1998 season.

With her fourth victory, Pak joined Karrie Webb as the second-winningest rookie in LPGA history (behind Nancy Lopez, who had nine wins in her first year on Tour in 1977-78).
