Donna McCreary as Mary Lincoln/Todd FamilyTHE FAMILY OF MARY LINCOLN Emilie Todd Helm and her daughter Katherine were Todd family historians. They spent years corresponding with Todds throughout the country and developing family charts. In the early part of the 1900s, Emilie sold her papers to Kittochtinny Magazine which published a Todd Family History explaining much of the family history back to James Todd who was born in 1669 in Scotland. The Todd family traveled from Scotland to Ireland and finally, in 1737, Robert Todd Immigrated to America. He was the father of 11 children, thus making the Todd family a large and diverse group. It was this family that could claim among its members statesmen, educators, ministers, war heroes, and the wife of a President, Mary Lincoln. Since her White House years, Todds have tried to tie their family line into Mary Lincolns. Some can some can not. Emilie and Katherine Helms diligent genealogy work has provided many Todds with answers as to whether or not they are related to the former first lady. Emilie and Katherine protected, and often changed, ages of women in the family. Emilies grandmother commented that a womans age was a changeable number," and Emilie heeded her grandmothers advice on several occasions. Even in census records, Emilie changed her daughters ages. To further protect their age, Emilie listed family members by listing all the male children in their order of birth, and then listing the female children in their birth order. Here, when information is available, the lists have been changed from Emilies original order to placing the children in their descending order of birth. If information is not available, the lists have been left as Emilie originally wrote them. Generation One JAMES TODD died June 22, 1679 in Lanarkshire,
