Steve's Golf Swing Highlights
He is the man with the golden swing. Elkington's beautiful ball-striking has led to wins all over the world . If he did not struggle from a variety of ailments, he probably could have won even more. Described by many as having the sweetest swing on the PGA Tour, Steve Elkington has been one of golf’s most recognizable names since turning professional in 1985.
Steve’s first win came in 1990 when he captured the Kmart Greater Greensboro Open. Since that time, Steve has recorded nine victories on the PGA Tour, and has won every year during the 1990’s with the exception of 1993 and 1996.
Steve’s tournament victories include two Players Championships, as well as two Doral-Ryder Open crowns. But it was his win at the 1995 PGA Championship that elevated him to another level amongst PGA Tour Professionals. Trailing by six strokes heading into Sunday, Steve shot a front nine 31 on way to a 64 that forced a playoff with Colin Montgomerie. He then calmly sank a 25-foot put on the first extra hole to secure the first major championship of his career.
Elkington was also winner of the Vardon trophy in 1995, with a 69.62 scoring average.
Elkington was a two-time All-American at the University of Houston. As a youth, his idol was fellow-Australian Bruce Devlin.
