Cory Pavin's Golf Swing HighlightsFULL NAME: Corey PavinHEIGHT: 5-9 WEIGHT: 155 BIRTHDATE: November 16, 1959 BIRTHPLACE: Oxnard, CA RESIDENCE: Plano, TX FAMILY: Wife, Lisa; Ryan (5/29/86), Austin (3/5/93) EDUCATION: UCLA SPECIAL INTERESTS: Basketball, snow skiing TURNED PROFESSIONAL: 1982 Corey Pavin was known as "Bulldog" when he was a dominant player on the PGA TOUR during the 1980s and '90s. A California native, Pavin earned his nickname through his gritty, determined play, which included three successful Ryder Cup appearances and his epic shot on the 72nd hole of the 1995 U.S. Open, which landed 5 feet from the hole and sealed his victory. Always one of the shortest hitters on the TOUR, Pavin finished 195th in Driving Distance last year. But he has compensated for that by becoming an excellent putter and hitting his drives and irons accurately in the fairway. Cory is an excellent example that you do not have to be long off the tee to be a great golfer. Pavin has added distance, though. He hit a driver to set up the 4-wood in 1995. In 2004 US Open, he hit a 3-wood off the tee and then a 5-iron to set up a two-putt par. He said if he had to hit the shot from 1995 again, he would probably use a 5-wood this time. ``I think it's a difference in technology and hopefully my swing is better. That has something to do with it, and maybe I'm in better shape,'' he said. ``Add it all up together and maybe it's a club difference.'' Pavin, who has been working with swing coach Butch Harmon, has more confidence and looks forward to his next tournament. Cory says when he is on he can compete with anyone. |
